All Holiday Scarves Donated! Our Next Project...

On Tuesday, we donated the rest of the scarves crafted during the holiday season to the San Jose branch of CityTeam International (formerly known as CityTeam Ministries), a nonprofit group that serves the homeless and poor. It took a while for us to find a reliable organization that would give our scarves directly to those in need instead of selling the scarves, but at last, our first charity knitting & crocheting event is complete!

In early January, we presented our project to our English classes. Our project was received warmly by our peers, and they encouraged us to continue organizing charity knitting/crocheting events at our school. Although our group may not be passed as an official club until much later in the year (hopefully, before the school year ends!), we've decided to begin our next charity project!

So, what is our next project? We have a good idea of what it could be, but first, we want to hear YOUR opinion! Do you have any particular charity in mind that you'd like us to donate handmade items to? Please email your suggestions to iknitmsj@gmail.com or post on our forum!

Hello 2012!

Happy New Year everyone! It's 2012. Yay (:

Just wanted to express again how grateful we are to everyone who helped iKnit by donating materials and/or crafting scarves for St. Anthony's! In addition, on the last day of school, we received a huge donation from a local elementary school librarian, who was told about our project by a librarian at MSJHS. Thank you both! Your kindness is greatly appreciated. (: Since we'd already delivered the scarves to St. Anthony's by then, we'll be using the yarn for future charity projects instead.

By the way, iKnit is currently applying to become an official club at MSJHS! We'll keep you updated.

Scarves Donated to St. Anthony's

The scarves and caps were delivered to St. Anthony's on December 18th.
Thank you to everyone who helped out by knitting/crocheting scarves, donating yarn and materials, and spreading the word about our charity knitting project!
Since our first project was such a huge success, we hope to continue on with more charity projects.

There are still a few scarves that did not meet the St. Anthony's scarf requirements and therefore will be donated to another charity soon.

*1/19/12 Update: The scarves that did not meet St. Anthony's scarf requirements were donated this week to City Team Ministries San Jose.

73 Scarves (+ Some Caps) Crafted!

iKnit has collected 73 scarves for St. Anthony's - almost double of our original goal of 40! Our project has been an amazing success, far beyond what we'd imagined it would be, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed to the project! It's very inspiring to see how many people care.

In a few hours, I'll be driving over to San Francisco to drop off the scarves and hats. I know that these lovingly handmade items will really brighten up the lives of those in need.

Thank You to the Needlecrafts Class!

A huge thank you to the needlecrafts class at the Fremont Senior Center! Even though we contacted them less than two weeks ago, they were able to craft thirteen lovely scarves and several caps on such short notice. Their efforts are greatly appreciated and will help warm the necks and hearts of those in need this winter. Thank you!

We've Reached Our Goal!

We are thrilled to announce that we have finally reached our goal of 40 scarves for St. Anthony's! In fact, there are still several scarves being made at the moment, so we're set to pass our goal before December 16, when we'll be delivering the beautiful scarves to St. Anthony's in San Francisco. Great job everyone! (:

Have you taken the iKnit Survey yet? If not, please take a few minutes to fill it out! You can find it in the post below. Thank you for your valuable feedback!

Please take our iKnit Survey! (:

As you may already know, iKnit is not an official club at Mission San Jose High. iKnit was created just a few weeks ago as part of an English project. So far, our first project, Scarves for St. Anthony's, has been quite successful! There are two weeks left and 10 more scarves that need to be crafted before the deadline, Dec. 16! :D We can do it!

With iKnit's success so far with Scarves for St. Anthony's, we're considering forming an actual charity knitting/crocheting club at MSJ, and we would like to know your opinion! Please take a few minutes to fill out our survey below, or click: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dC1JTnc5cE9JSTY1UmtyNU10djFLekE6MQ.

Also, if you participated in Scarves for St. Anthony's, please make sure to fill out the survey! (For the purposes of our project, we'd like to know the extent of participation at MSJ in the event.)

Thank you!
