Scarves Donated to St. Anthony's

The scarves and caps were delivered to St. Anthony's on December 18th.
Thank you to everyone who helped out by knitting/crocheting scarves, donating yarn and materials, and spreading the word about our charity knitting project!
Since our first project was such a huge success, we hope to continue on with more charity projects.

There are still a few scarves that did not meet the St. Anthony's scarf requirements and therefore will be donated to another charity soon.

*1/19/12 Update: The scarves that did not meet St. Anthony's scarf requirements were donated this week to City Team Ministries San Jose.

73 Scarves (+ Some Caps) Crafted!

iKnit has collected 73 scarves for St. Anthony's - almost double of our original goal of 40! Our project has been an amazing success, far beyond what we'd imagined it would be, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed to the project! It's very inspiring to see how many people care.

In a few hours, I'll be driving over to San Francisco to drop off the scarves and hats. I know that these lovingly handmade items will really brighten up the lives of those in need.

Thank You to the Needlecrafts Class!

A huge thank you to the needlecrafts class at the Fremont Senior Center! Even though we contacted them less than two weeks ago, they were able to craft thirteen lovely scarves and several caps on such short notice. Their efforts are greatly appreciated and will help warm the necks and hearts of those in need this winter. Thank you!

We've Reached Our Goal!

We are thrilled to announce that we have finally reached our goal of 40 scarves for St. Anthony's! In fact, there are still several scarves being made at the moment, so we're set to pass our goal before December 16, when we'll be delivering the beautiful scarves to St. Anthony's in San Francisco. Great job everyone! (:

Have you taken the iKnit Survey yet? If not, please take a few minutes to fill it out! You can find it in the post below. Thank you for your valuable feedback!

Please take our iKnit Survey! (:

As you may already know, iKnit is not an official club at Mission San Jose High. iKnit was created just a few weeks ago as part of an English project. So far, our first project, Scarves for St. Anthony's, has been quite successful! There are two weeks left and 10 more scarves that need to be crafted before the deadline, Dec. 16! :D We can do it!

With iKnit's success so far with Scarves for St. Anthony's, we're considering forming an actual charity knitting/crocheting club at MSJ, and we would like to know your opinion! Please take a few minutes to fill out our survey below, or click: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dC1JTnc5cE9JSTY1UmtyNU10djFLekE6MQ.

Also, if you participated in Scarves for St. Anthony's, please make sure to fill out the survey! (For the purposes of our project, we'd like to know the extent of participation at MSJ in the event.)

Thank you!

27 Scarves for St. Anthony's (so far!)

Some of the wonderful scarves that people have knitted in the past few weeks

We have completed 27 scarves and are still knitting and crocheting more! At this rate, we may even surpass our goal for 40 scarves. Yay! :)

We greatly appreciate the generosity of those who have donated supplies! They will be put to good use.
Also, thank you to everyone who has helped knit or crochet. Without your efforts, iKnit wouldn't be nearly as successful as it is now. Keep crafting those scarves so that more people will feel the love and warmth this winter!

(Donation boxes are still in rooms E1A, B21, and the MSJ library. If you're interested in knitting/crocheting scarves, please email iKnitMSJ@gmail.com)

Crafting Scarves at the Library

Today, we had an informal three-hour gathering at the Fremont Main Library. Thanks to everyone who came, and welcome to our new crocheter! (:

Update on donation boxes: We are unable to set up a collection box at the Fremont Main Library. Currently, the only collection boxes are at Mission San Jose High School. We may have a 'collection day' for materials and completed scarves at the Fremont Library sometime in December.

One of our prolific knitters has already finished five scarves! Here are three of them...

Scarves in Progress

If you're interested in helping out by knitting or crocheting a scarf, it's not too late to start! Several people have started - and even finished - our first scarves. Take a look at what we've been working on!

Thanks to Fremont Main Library's donation of knitting materials, we now have more supplies!

Our Goal for Scarves!

Let's try to complete 40 scarves by Friday, December 16th! :D

Why not tell a couple of friends about our project? It'll be great way to spend hours on the car or airplane if you're traveling this Thanksgiving Break!

Thanks to everyone who has donated yarn! We greatly appreciate it. :)
And of course to anyone who is making scarves, keep up the great work!

Beautiful yarn for Scarves for St. Anthony's

Such pretty colors!
On Friday, I bought 20 skeins of 100% wool yarn from Michaels! The yarn is quite soft and warm, and it's extremely eager to be knitted & crocheted into scarves for St. Anthony's! (: Time to work on my knitting skills and find some new patterns!

iKnit is Born!

Hello everyone, and welcome to the blog of iKnit!

iKnit is a nonprofit group that knits and crochets items - such as scarves, beanies, blankets, and toys - for people in need. iKnit was formed in early November of 2011 by Ivonnie and Melinda, two students at Mission San Jose School, as part of their English project on Romanticism.

We realized that knitting and crocheting for charity characterized Romanticism in that we use our imaginations to create art, pour our feelings into our handiwork, and strive to inspire others in our school and community to join in and make the world a better place. The English assignment was a perfect opportunity for us to actually do something that we'd considered before but had never gotten around to doing.

Since iKnit was formed in early November of 2011, we've only just started on our journey to spread warmth and joy through our handmade crafts. We will be donating through a variety of organizations - hospitals, charities, shelters - to anyone in need; projects may include knitting & crocheting for premature babies, the homeless, cancer patients, and those affected by natural disasters. If you have an idea for a project, feel free to email it to iKnit.MSJ@gmail.com!
