What do we do as a club?
We knit and crochet scarves, caps, and other items for charity. We also teach new members how to knit and crochet. Charities we have donated to include Scarves for St. Anthony’s, American Red Cross, Hearts in Unity, and SAVE. iKnit also participates in school events; we sold crocheted drawstring bags for Valentine’s Day and falafels during Multicultural Week.

Service Hours?
Yes, you get SERVICE HOURS! Hours are based off of what item you make. For example, scarves get 5 hours while caps get 3 hours. We keep careful track of the items you turn in for donation so that hours can be calculated at the end of each project.

$3 Club Membership fee?
The club membership fee is optional. If you do not pay the membership fee, you must use your own yarn and supplies for the knitting and crocheting projects. Those that do pay the fee can access free yarn and borrow needles and hooks.

FREE YARN? SUPPLIES?
Free yarn is available for those who pay the $3 membership fee. iKnit has a great selection of donated yarn to use; many of these are high quality and cost approximately $8 to $15 per skein. Therefore, paying the $3 membership fee is highly recommended. HOWEVER, THIS YARN CAN ONLY BE USED FOR CHARITY PROJECTS AND EXTRA YARN MUST BE RETURNED. Knitting needles, crochet hooks, and looms can also be borrowed and returned, if one has paid the membership fee.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to spread warmth, comfort and happiness through our handmade scarves, hats, toys and more. Our items are created with love and compassion and are donated to charities and hospitals for those in need. We hope to inspire others to join us in making a positive difference in our community.

ABOUT US

iKnit is a nonprofit knitting and crocheting group based in the San Francisco Bay Area. iKnit was formed by two students at Mission San Jose High School in late 2011 and became an official club at the school in September 2012. As iKnit continues to expand, we are working to spread the love of charity knitting to even more people.

Thank you for all of your support!
