Scarves for St. Anthony's

iKnit has completed Scarves for St. Anthony's 2013! We are doing this project again in 2014 as well! :)

Scarves for St. Anthony's benefits the poor and homeless in San Francisco by providing warmth and care through handmade scarves. The items will be given free to guests at St. Anthony's, a charity in San Francisco, during the holidays.

Progress:

How YOU can help
  1. Donate yarn! We especially need wool (or wool blend) yarn, as it is more insulating, water-proof and washable than other kinds of yarn. We also welcome donations of knitting needles and crochet hooks!
  2. Knit and crochet items to be donated! We are focusing on crafting scarves and adult-sized caps, but any items/sizes are appreciated! It doesn't matter if you aren't the most skilled or fastest knitter - it's the love and compassion put into the items that counts!

St. Anthony's Scarf Guidelines
  • Size: 5-7 inches wide and 48-60 inches (4-5 ft.) long
  • Yarn: Mid-weight yarns in washable wool or wool blends (NO cotton yarn, which provides little warmth)
  • Colors: Neutral, classic or bright (NO white/light-colored yarns, which soil easily)
  • Yardage: 200-250, depending on yarn weight
  • Needle size: U.S. 7-9, depending on yarn weight

Donation drop-off boxes are located at Mission San Jose High School. If you are unable to deliver donations to the boxes at MSJ, please email us to arrange a pickup.
